Chemin du Puy
The Chemin du Puy is part of the historic Camino de Santiago (Way of St. James) starting in the charming city of Le Puy en Velay and finishing in the Pyrenees in Saint Jean Pied de Port (SJPP).
The Chemin du Puy is the route people living in south-central France took toward the Pyrenees, where they would connect with the Camino de Santiago to reach their ultimate goal, the Cathedral at Santiago de Compostela in northwestern Spain.
In 2023, we walked the first third of the Chemin du Puy, from Le Puy en Velay to Conques, France.
In 2024, we walked the middle third, from Figeac to Moissac, France. The second video link below shows the highlights of this magnificent walk along ancient (and wet!) paths in southwestern France.
In 2025, we are walking the final third of the Chemin du Puy and hope you’ll travel along with us for this adventure too.

Chemin du Puy – Part 1: Le Puy en Velay to Conques, France – 2023

The Chemin du Puy is part of the historic Camino de Santiago (Way of St. James) starting in the charming city of Le Puy en Velay and finishing in the Pyrenees in Saint Jean Pied de Port (SJPP). The Chemin du Puy is the route people living in south-central France took toward the Pyrenees, where they would connect with the Camino de Santiago to reach their ultimate goal, the Cathedral at Santiago de Compostela in northwestern Spain.
Day 1: Le Puy en Velay to Saint Privat d’Allier.
Day 2: between Saint Privat d’Allier and Sauges, France.
Day 3: from Saugues and Saint Alban, France.
Days 4 to 6: from Saint Alban to Aumont-Aubrac to Nasbinals to Saint Chély d’Aubrac, France
Days 7 & 8: from St. Chély d’Aubrac to Espalion, to Estaing, France
Canal du Midi, France
We walked along the historic Canal du Midi between Toulouse to Carcassonne, France over 8 days. The Canal du Midi catalyzed France’s Industrial Revolution in the 18th and 19th Centuries, and is now a scenic walk along a river teaming with life, adventure, elegant canal boats, excellent waterside restaurants, and memories waiting to be made. Starting in Toulouse, we visited the charming towns and small cities of Ramonville, Baziége, Villefranche de Lauragais, Avignonet-Lauragais, Castelnaudary, Bram, Caux-et-Sauzens, and ended in Carcassonne. Canal boats float by, using the many locks to traverse up and down this historic canal.

Biarritz, France
Biarritz, France is an unbelievably charming and elegant city on the Bay of Biscay, along the Basque Coast. Popular as a seaside resort for Europeans since the 1700s, its treasures include a summer palace built by Napoleon III for the Empress Eugénie, private villas, and a harbor built by stone masons into the rock. It has also been the surfing capital of Europe since the 1950s, with good reason. The waves can be enormous with storms off the coast.
